Veronica Mars’ Jason Dohring Joins The CW’s iZombie

Rob Thomas has already brought several Veronica Mars alums into the iZombie fold but I have a feeling fans will be extra excited about this one. Jason Dohring, aka Logan Echolls, will join the cast for Season 3.

Enrico Colantoni, Percy Daggs III, Ryan Hansen, Daran Norris, Adam Rose, and Veronica herself, Kristen Bell, are among those who previously guest starred on The CW’s Vertigo Comics adaptation iZombie. TVLine writes of the new addition:

[Dohring] will recur on Mars creator Rob Thomas’ undead CW drama as Chase Graves, the brother-in-law of Vivian Stoll, TVLine has learned. (For those who need a refresher, she’s the Fillmore Graves CEO who presented a “Are you with us or against us?” scenario to Liv at the close of Season 2.)

Chase — who makes his debut in Episode 8, titled “Eat a Kinevel” — is also a member of the Fillmore Graves hierarchy, meaning Dohring may get his zombie wish.

Dohring has recently been on another CW show, The Originals.

Showtime Releases New Twin Peaks Production Video to Torture Us

You may recall last year I watched David Lynch’s Twin Peaks for the first time (and wrote all about it). Safe to say I’m now a big fan and am very excited to see where the story picks up on Showtime.

We’ve gotten the smallest of teases about this project but here’s a new look at the behind-the-scenes happenings and a few of the returning actors (and some of the new, giant cast).

Right now, all I want is for them to release a scene. Just one scene. No actual trailer, just one scene that gives us a sampling of the classic humor and horror of the series. I can live off that until next year.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Doctor Who 2016 Christmas Special in particular because it’s set to feature a superhero character. Now BBC America has released a new behind-the-scenes look.

Here’s a brief summary of “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.”

The hit BBCA series will return on Christmas day as the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat.

Matt Lucas is also returning as Nardole and Justin Chatwin will be guest-starring as a Superman-esque hero.

Got my cup of coffee, let’s watch the first trailer for Netflix’s Gilmore Girls revival!

Gilmore girls makes its much-anticipated return with four memorable chapters from the lives of Lorelai, Emily, Rory and countless more Stars Hollow stalwarts. Picking up nine years after we last dropped in on the whimsical Connecticut town, Gilmore girls: A Year in the Life finds each of our leading ladies at a major crossroad: Lorelai’s relationship with Luke is at an unnerving standstill; Rory’s budding journalism career in New York has stalled before it’s even begun; and Emily’s world is turned upside down following the untimely passing of her beloved husband, Richard.

Gilmore girls: A Year in the Life is told through four 90-minute chapters — each spanning one season: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall — and brings back to life everything from the quaint corner diner to the dreamy Dragonfly Inn to a fast-talking, quick-witted mother-daughter love story unlike any other. Gilmore girls: A Year in the Life launches Friday, November 25, everywhere that Netflix is available.

Well This Stinks: Bryan Fuller Steps Down as Star Trek: Discovery Showrunner

Breaking news tonight that Bryan Fuller has decided to step down as showrunner on CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery. This is definitely a bummer.

Variety has the scoop:

The decision was made late last week to hand the day-to-day showrunning reins to “Star Trek” exec producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts as “Discovery” gears up for the start of filming next month and a May premiere date. Fuller, who will remain an executive producer, will still be involved in breaking stories, and the show will continue to follow his vision for the universe that this latest “Trek” series will inhabit. Writer-director Akiva Goldsman is also expected to join “Discovery” in a top creative role. He’s envisioned as serving as producing support for Berg and Harberts, Fuller and exec producer Alex Kurtzman as they juggle the demands of the series that CBS is counting on to be the marquee selling point for subscriptions to its CBS All Access SVOD service.

Variety goes further to cite “sources” who told them there was strain between CBS Television Studios and Fuller over the show’s progress. You may recall Fuller is also currently working Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods as well as a reboot of Amazing Stories at NBC.

They note that Fuller has written at least the first two scripts for the new Trek series and worked on the first season’s broader arc and mythology and add “There’s also some internal stress at the studio that the lead character, described by Fuller as a female lieutenant commander, has yet to be cast.”

I’ve written about the long wait we’ve had for a cast but didn’t think it would come to this kind of change up so late in the game. Hopefully they’ll still be going the progressive route Fuller had discussed.

“Sources emphasized that CBS execs have been happy with the material that Fuller has developed to date but became increasingly concerned that he had too much on his plate and there was no willingness to delay the premiere date once more,” wrote Variety.

I’m With Her(mione): The Geekiest Political Ad Yet?

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been commenting on the U.S. election quite a bit through her Twitter account. This new political ad features Hermione but someone else famous is involved.

Joss Whedon recently returned to Twitter to help campaign for Hillary Clinton with some of his best pals. That was pretty geeky I guess. Then I saw this RTed into my feed last night. Give it a watch.

Yes, that’s right. James Franco has endorsed Hillary Clinton in the coolest way possible. He also posted it on his Twitter and his Instagram to, of course, lots of complaints. I may not always like James Franco, but when I do, he’s campaigning for Hillary using Hermione as an example.

Our First Look at the Unofficial Roswell Continuation, Baron and Toluca, Is Here

Majandra Delfino and Brendan Fehr are closer than ever to recreating their Roswell characters Maria and Michael for Netflix. Check out the first teaser for Baron and Toluca.

It was back in June I told you about this surprising project. At the time, the actors were asking Roswell fans to tweet at Netflix in the hopes they could get their “spiritual successor” series on air. Now, Entertainment Weekly has debuted this teaser clip and spoke with Delfino and Fehr.

Delfino told them the idea began as a “meta-take” because of how well the two actors always worked together.

My original thought had been that the inciting incident between our characters would happen at a Comic-Con-type festival. Then Brendan and I and the rest of the Roswell cast were invited to the ATX Television Festival in Austin [in 2014]. We were there in the setting I had imagined and I was like, “This would be so awesome.” I mean, we did not really have a paranormal experience [Laughs] — but when we got there, I was stunned with how many people were there to see us and still just so in love with not just Roswell, but also with our characters, Michael and Maria, and their dynamic that it gave me the fuel to keep writing. I always, always wrote it with Brendan in mind, but never really said anything.

A few years later and Fehr contacted her saying they should work together again. The rest is history.

They also mention they’d be happy for a network to pick up Baron and Toluca but feel Netflix gets “what this needs to be” and promise lots of Easter eggs for fans (some of which you can already see in this teaser). “It really captures that love-hate that Brendan and I do so well,” said Delfino. “That’s why the promo is the way it is because it’s kind of inviting the audience to come with us on this new frontier that will feel slightly familiar. It will feel nostalgic as Brendan said, but be its own thing.”

OH MY GOD BEST NEWS EVER!!!!! Young Justice is officially getting a Season 3!

In a press release sent out just minutes ago Warner Bros. announced:

The Team is back and it’s “business as usual.” Warner Bros. Animation has begun production on a third season of all-new episodes of the acclaimed hit, action-animated series “Young Justice,” based on the characters from DC Entertainment. Season three promises new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team, but most importantly, the opportunity for fans to finally continue the adventures of some of their favorite Super Heroes. Further details about the new season — including premiere date and network partner — will be announced at a later time.

Producers Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman will be along for the ride.

“The affection that fans have had for Young Justice, and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series. “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”

You may recall, fans have been campaigning for someone (namely Netflix) to pick up the animated series for Season 3 since its untimely cancellation.

Warner has released this teaser image to go with the news and tells fans they can sign up for updates at YJS3.com.

The creators took to Twitter to share their excitement (you can bet the fans are shouting back with glee).

If you’ve yet to watch this series I highly recommend checking it out on Netflix.

If You’re Going to Visit Westworld, Make Sure You Ask Questions First

Westworld is a great concept for a sci-fi show but you’d never catch me there. I’ve watched and read far too much sci-fi to trust my life in the hands of artificial intelligence. I mean, things go bad 99.9% the time (not a scientific measurement), don’t they? But even those who love a good AI story are tempted by the real thing. But if you do decide to go to Westworld, better ask the important questions first.

Westworld theories and deep dives are all the rage thanks to HBO’s new series exploring a “what if” type of future. But anachronistic musical cues and alternate reality games aside, what’s the reality of the park? What would people be asking before they signed up if this was the real world instead of fantasy?

On her YouTube, Jenny Nicholson provides low-key, geeky comedy and intends to explore these questions. She’s previously weighed in on Rey’s parentage in Star Wars, Batman v Superman, and more on her channel. This time she’s asking the tough questions of Westworld. For instance: how do those fancy bullets work? What kind of vetting do the employees go through? Do the robots suffer?

Watch as Nicholson attempts to give both sides of the story.

Marvel Is Giving Us an Inhumans TV Show That’s Not a Spinoff and That We Can Watch in IMAX

NATALIA CORDOVA-BUCKLEY, JUAN PABLO RABA, CHLOE BENNET, LUKE MITCHELL

Marvel dropped some news late yesterday – they’re moving ahead with the Inhumans. But as a TV show that will premiere in IMAX. Oh, also it won’t be a SHIELD spinoff.

From Marvel.com:

IMAX Corp. (NYSE: IMAX), Marvel Television, a unit of Marvel Entertainment, and Disney|ABC Television Group today announced an innovative agreement to exclusively premiere the new ABC series “Marvel’s The Inhumans” in IMAX commercial theatres, marking the first time a live-action television series has debuted in this manner.

Under the agreement, a version of the first two episodes of Marvel Television’s new series “Marvel’s The Inhumans”–produced in conjunction with ABC Studios and filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras–will run worldwide exclusively in IMAX for two weeks at the beginning of September 2017. ABC plans to then premiere the weekly series in fall, with additional exclusive content that can only be seen on the network.

Well this is…weird. You may recall Marvel had Inhumanns scheduled as a movie not too long ago. They pulled it from their release schedule and the latest we’d heard was studio head Kevin Feige saying, “I think Inhumans will happen for sure. I don”t know when. I think it”s happening on television. And I think as we get into Phase 4 as I”ve always said, it could happen as a movie. I think it would be super cool.”

At the time I assumed he was talking about what was already happening on ABC’s Agents of SHIELD, where Inhumans had been worked into the story thanks to Terrigen Crystals. Looks like he might have been referring to this new project instead.

The Hollywood Reporter added to the news but first of all I must point out this line, “Few details are known about the project, including producers, cast and premise.” Yeah, that’s strange. Even stranger? They write, “Sources note that this is not the planned Inhumans feature film, which was initially set for July 2019 but pulled from the schedule. It is also not a spinoff of Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD, which has spent a good deal of time exploring a storyline about its Inhumans.”

Why wouldn’t it be a spinoff? It’s all very bizarre, right down to the heavy business-speak of the press release. THR also notes the series is currently set for eight episodes, which really just sticks a knife in the side of Agent Carter fans. But what do you all think? Are you excited for an Inhumans show regardless?

I’m Assuming You Have Feelings About Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life?

Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall have been binged. Would you like a place to share your spoilery feelings about Netflix’s Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life?

I just finished the revival earlier this afternoon and have a lot of decompressing to do. But I realized over the last few days it was harder to avoid Gilmore Girls spoilers online than the latest Marvel/Netflix show so I figured I’d plop down an open thread for you all to vent your many, many feelings.

Please preface your comment with “WINTER,” “SPRING,” etc. if you’ve only made it partway through, that way other folks don’t reply to you with spoilers of later episodes. Otherwise, all other comments will contain FULL SPOILERS after these Paris Gellar gifs.

DC TV Superhero Crossover Open Thread: Was Heroes v Aliens All You Hoped?

dctvcrossover

I’ll probably have more thoughts later on but my first reaction post-DC TV crossover was one of joy. Care to share your thoughts on Heroes v Aliens?

Supergirl got the short end of the stick but I have to say overall I was pretty impressed with The CW team getting Arrow, The Flash, and the Legends of Tomorrow casts together for this epic event. I’m sure it was a learning experience for them too and next year’s will be even better.

By the way, I’ve got one piece up already about the Arrow portion of the crossover if you’re interested. Otherwise let loose with the spoilers in the comments!

Westworld Season 1 Open Thread Or: How I Fell In Love With The Snake Woman

westworlds1finale

Ok, I already kind of liked Ingrid Bolsø Berdal’s Armistice, aka the Snake Tattoo Woman, on HBO’s Westworld but the Season 1 finale made me fall in love. Have thoughts on the season as a whole? Share away!

The debut season was a bit shaky for me. I’m aching for more, hell ANY, character development that makes me invest in these characters but the finale was fairly satisfying. As I said early on in the season, I think the story might have dragged on too long with not enough payoff along the way for more casual viewers but they’ve already got their Season 2 so we shall see. But last night’s MVP?

She was just so, so good. And hopefully you stuck around for the surprise post-credit scene. Just one more note from me for now and that is: claw game hand? Seriously?

So what did you make of the finale/first season? Spoilers away!

The Muppets Relaunch Pigs in Space With an Alien Parody?

Star Wars was RIGHT THERE, you guys.

I gave ABC’s The Muppets a try but for some reason it wasn’t catching me. Perhaps the new Pigs in Space digital series will?

At long last, the legendary S.S. Swinetrek returns in the first all-new episodes of the epic “PIGS IN SPACE” saga in more than 20 years! Join First Mate Piggy, Captain Link Hogthrob, and Dr. Julius Strangepork as they match wits with an annoying alien stowaway who really knows how to get under your skin.

This first episode, an Alien parody, is great for adults but not sure a lot of kids will get the reference.

The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green To Lead Star Trek: Discovery

0

sonequamartingreenonceupon

The Walking Dead and Once Upon a Time star Sonequa Martin-Green will be headed to space next as she leads the cast of CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery.

Since I wrote about Michelle Yeoh being cast in the series, a lot has happened. They’ve also picked up Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp. Yeoh is leading the crew of the starship Shenzhou as Captain Georgiou, Jones is Lt. Saru, a Starfleet science officer and a new alien species, while Rapp is playing Lt. Stamets, an astromycologist, fungus expert, from starship Discovery.

And then they announced a trio of Klingons to be played by Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, and Mary Chieffo. Obi is playing T’Kuvma, “the Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses,” Latif is playing Kol, “commanding officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma,” and Chieffo will be L’Rell, “the battle deck commander of the Klingon ship.”

Entertainment Weekly says Martin-Green has landed the curious role of “Number One,” a lieutenant commander, the woman we knew would be the actual lead of the series. She’s also the first African-American woman to lead a Star Trek ensemble. If you’re wondering whether this means The Walking Dead’s Sasha is a goner, EW writes “Martin-Green is will continue to serve as a series regular on AMC’s zombie drama.”

We May Get to See Rogue One from the Perspective of Star Wars Rebels One Day

0
0

screen-shot-2016-12-20-at-1-26-58-pm

If you’re a fan of Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels, you probably already heard there were Easter Eggs for the animated series in Rogue One. A new breakdown with Dave Filoni tells us we might just get to see the movie from their point of view.

Rogue One spoilers? I guess? [Editor’s Note: Don’t forget about our open spoiler thread for the film here.]

Entertainment Weekly spoke to the executive producer about all those sightings of Ghost, Hera Syndulla’s ship, and Chopper. He also confirmed the “General Syndulla” we hear being called over the loudspeaker on Yavin 4 is Hera, not her father. Filoni told them “The movie gives that away, but I would rather have all the [references] be right. Hera will eventually become a general in the Rebel Alliance.” Awesome.

He also confirmed the rumor going around earlier this week that Saw Gerrera would make an appearance on the animated series and that he would be voiced by Forest Whitaker, who plays him in Rogue One. But here’s the part I found really interesting.

Filoni says fans of the show may someday see Rogue One’s action retold from his characters’ perspective on a future season of Rebels. “I already have some theories about the story behind it,” Filoni says. “I can imagine doing that entire [Scarif] battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.”

He doesn’t say it’s definitely happening but he seems interested in trying it. And that would be, well, really cool. As a Rebels fan, I was already really curious about what was going on aboard Ghost while simultaneously really worried for my favorite characters. But considering the film only focused on one part of the resistance, I was wondering what other pieces were in play. With Saw showing up on Rebels, I wouldn’t put it past them to give us part of Jyn’s teenage years with him either at some point. What do you think?
